International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is an International organization which was established after the Second World War, rising importance of nuclear industry and non proliferation has been rising. Eisenhower emphasized the importance of nuclear, “Atoms for peace” and two years later, in 1957 IAEA was established. Thus purpose of IAEA is to promote peaceful usage of nuclear energy such as improving the nuclear technology for cancer treatment or generate the nuclear energy and to avoid being used for military.
Apart from the other International organizations, IAEA has not been criticized its limited transparency and participation by outside implementation bodies until Gulf war. The reason why its limitation is the organization treats sensitive matter. Nuclear can be used by weapon and it is directly related to the political and economic matter. Also, the claims of most of NGOs are related to morality. Their arguments are not directly related to organizational interest. This is why active involvement of NGOs is limited because states as well as members are not willing to accept their active involvements.
